Here's the approximate weather you'll enjoy

Figures are long-term monthly averages and are approximate — actual conditions vary year to year and even hour to hour. Use them to plan and pack, not as a precise forecast.

About Costa Rica's weather

Is this a real forecast?
No — and that's the point. A forecast more than about 10 days out is guesswork. These are long-term monthly averages built from years of climate data, so they tell you the kind of weather to plan and pack for, not what the sky will do on a specific date.
Why does the weather differ so much between stops?
Costa Rica packs a dozen microclimates into a small country. The Caribbean coast and the Pacific run on almost opposite rhythms, the Central Valley stays spring-like all year, and the cloud forest is cool and damp when the beaches are baking. That's exactly why looking at your whole itinerary at once is useful.
What is the green (rainy) season really like?
On most of the country the green season — roughly May through November — means brilliant sunny mornings and a heavy afternoon downpour that clears by evening. September and October are the wettest on the Pacific, while the Caribbean often has its driest, sunniest spell then.
Should I avoid Costa Rica in the rainy months?
Not necessarily. The green season brings lush landscapes, fuller waterfalls, fewer crowds and lower prices. If you want wall-to-wall sun, the dry season (December–April) is the safer bet — but plenty of people prefer a green-season trip once they know what to expect.
